And I bet you did that as I went into the only authentic Fish and Chips shop in the entirety of New York. Sadly, it’s just like a Fish and Chips shop you’ll find on a street corner in Croydon, complete with two middle-aged, brash (bordering rude) men with a very strong cockney accent.

Disclaimer: I am not racist in any way, I just really like my men very pale, lanky and feminine. I was never a fan of hair, square jaws and big bodies. You might say I might as well date a woman, but I still prefer the penis, and I am not a fan of boobs.

“You’re fucking ugly.” It’s such a plain and simple sentence, and yet the words in itself embodies an insult, a misjudgement or maltreatment and most importantly, rejection. It emphasises some people’s close-mindedness and their false sense of entitlement along with an attitude of arrogance and indifference in which they think (or like to think) that they are better than everyone else.
Go ahead and misjudge people, mistreat them, be passive-aggressive towards them, or even just be plain rude to them. You have no idea how much effort they go through to put a smile on their faces for everyone, what they have been through and what they will go through. But I guess if one can’t have the common decency of being able to understand and be open-minded, respectful, and at the very least, polite, then one can’t really expect, and shouldn’t expect much.
On the other side, however, would be recipient of such a remark. Unlike dianemayxo, most people’s defensive reaction would be “I am fine, I don’t give a shit.”, but often times, you actually do care. You were actually, even ever-so-slightly hurt, in a sense that you would rather not have anything as such said or done to you, heck even the offender cared enough to post whatever they posted. It is human to feel, but most of us are led into thinking that it is wise not to care. Because it’s cool. Because it makes you seem like you are experienced and wise. This is what a society of indifference has turned us into.
Ultimately, speaking your mind and actually caring speaks for everyone else who had to go through such indecency, and who will probably encounter such a foul behaviour in the future, and I think this is how you make a difference in people’s lives, by giving a shit and putting your foot down into what most people think you shouldn’t even care about. Why do you think that 20,000 people reblogged this? Because it hit a nerve. Because at one point in our lives, we have been offended in this way, and the simple truth has been plainly spoken. Someone cared enough and decided to reply wisely to a seemingly stupid remark.
Human beings are feeling, emotional creatures and it is the depth of our thoughts and feelings which makes us humans.

So this is what my lunch these days consists of, of course in between white bread. OMNOMNOM. Most of you would probably die from consuming this super-sweet stuff. I am off early from the office today. I am going with the boy (or Mr. Germany as Mari calls him) to Massachusetts for the Thanksgiving holidays! We’ll be staying in Boston, but will be driving to Plymouth (where the whole thanksgiving tradition started) and Salem (to appease my stereotypically British need for haunted and supernatural tours).
Once again a shout-out to quiteupsidedown and yunu for the lovely updates, you guys are awesome, as always.
